Thank you upvoters. Here my real reason behind it

12

u/HooTighForThis 6d ago

No! They'll say yes because it might go bad for them if they don't. They won't say no, they can't say no. Because of the implication.

My account is also old. Would you believe me when I say you should go and treat yourself to an ice-cold, refreshing coke? It's such a sweet carbonated cola. The hints of vanilla taste great, and the small amount of caffeine is just right for pushing you through a long day. I start every day right, and I start it with Coketm.

Funny story about that.... I used to say this to my daughter all the time after the bath. One day she asked me WHY I always say this. I nonchalantly told her it was a horror movie about a guy who keeps women in a hole in his basement to make skin suits out of. I didn't even really think before saying... she was 7 at the time and HORRIFIED, slept with me for a week after that. Whoopsies!

163

u/TieDyedFury 6d ago

Just tell her not to worry because she is still way too small to make a proper skin suit.

People meet on Reddit?

5.8k

u/nolo_me 6d ago hehehehe LOVE! Rocket Like

My wife got talking to someone in a Robin chatroom. They chatted on and off over the next couple of days, discovered they had loads of stuff in common. She got really excited that she'd made a new friend through a silly April Fools experiment.

As they carried on talking the coincidences mounted up. They grew up in the same town at the same time, knew the same people. They had too much in common, it was getting a bit spooky. Eventually they figured it out: the random redditor she'd been getting to know for the last few days was her sister.

1.7k

u/Amused-Observer 6d ago

that's hilarious

880

u/nolo_me 6d ago

It really was. The whole chatroom was howling when they found out (hi to any ccKufi folks who might be reading).

182

u/CravingKoreanFood 6d ago

Too bad they have to make new accounts after lol

148

u/nolo_me 6d ago

They didn't. Don't think either of them has anything they're particularly ashamed of on here.

295

u/willclerkforfood 6d ago Wholesome

What kind of depraved sicko isn’t at least slightly ashamed of their Reddit comment history?

75

u/Titanbeard 6d ago

I thought about that once. Like what would my wife think after I die and she looks at it? Then I realized I'll be dead so I won't be embarrassed.

89

u/TheRottenKittensIEat 6d ago

My father asked me to delete everything from his laptop before he died to spare my mom looking through it.

I did as he wished, but I always wondered how much gay porn was on it.

Sorry dad, love you, but, you know... we all knew.

72

u/petgreg 6d ago

Was there some rule they couldn't say their name? I would give that info way before I knew a spooky amount about someone.

128

u/eSPiaLx 6d ago

tbf they might just have really generic common names. Your name is sarah? I have a sister named sarah!

that or the more likely explanation - the craziest coincidences happened over a few minute period before they figured it out, and everything else over the multi-day period was just random chatter about not sensitive details

1.3k

u/G37_is_numberletter 6d ago

Back in the days of “The narwhal bacons at midnight”

204

u/FutureBondVillain 6d ago

My first 1k comment (back then that was HUGE) was about how a girl showed up to a reddit meetup, and there was cake on a picnic table, but everyone was hiding in the bushes waiting for her to leave so they could eat the cake. I’m butchering it and paraphrasing, and it was back when things were taken more light heartedly.

I still like reddit, but I miss those days. This was probably 2010 - 2011.

u/sly_cooper25 6d ago

Nah it's not like this anymore, Reddit wasn't mainstream popular in 2012 like it is now. The neckbeards are still here obviously but a sample population of Redditors would look pretty average these days.

47

u/junkit33 6d ago

Reddit was already EXTREMELY popular in 2012. The Digg exodus was 2010, which is what really sent the site soaring. They had 70 million monthly users back then, and the vast majority of it was US-based.

It's like 500 million users now, but so much of that growth is international.

→ More replies

8

u/Over_Weekend_5939 6d ago

I think this is true in general, but I’m curious what the population of people who comment look like. My guess is it’s not far from this.

I thought I heard (very possibly made up) stat that like only 1% of people actually comment, and a bigger but not much bigger upvote/downvote.

In general tho Reddit is definitely pretty “normie”. Sometimes I read stuff and I think “oh yeah, that solid C student who was in the lowest level classes and who never did any work and is now a cop who watches the voice” represents the average Reddit population.

I hosted a meetup of a sub I used to mod about 5 years ago.

A couple of people started hooking up on the down low. Which wasn't that big of a deal, except the woman had a live-in boyfriend back at home.

Which was, y'know, the couple's business and stuff, and none of mine. But then she started PMing and calling me late at night with drama -- I suppose because I had organized everything and she felt close to me.

My wife was all, "You need to get out of that soap opera" and I didn't disagree.

Honestly I've always kind of wondered about this for all social internet things. I've been involved in online gaming of all sorts and different social platforms and whatnot for like 20 years and I've never made good friends with people I played with online. I feel like I must be bad at internetting, because everyone else seems to have all these great online friends.

159

u/quitebizzare 6d ago

I've made friends playing games. It's about putting in the effort and inviting them to play and asking about their life. Same as irl

39

u/Galkura 6d ago

Yup. I have a few friends/acquaintances I’ve met over the years online.

I have one who I consider one of my best friends, we met on WoW ages ago. Introduced him to my friends, neither liked each other at first, but he became part of our group and every day ventrilo (eventually discord) life.

Had a falling out with the group (they were people I knew irl) but still talk to the one I met online almost daily.

Some games really promote communities. My experience generally is the same as yours, except for the friends I made playing WoW and an FPS game. With WoW, raiding and adventuring with the same people can create a bond. Many WoW guilds I have been a part of had yearly meet-ups.

I also met a good friend of mine in one of my first WoW dungeons. We started talking and he turned out to live close to me. We sort of drifted apart after he moved continents and stopped gaming though. I also met one of my best friends on a small community server for an FPS game. Started talking. Started playing competitively in a team together and we are still great friends to this day.

These things sort of take time though. It took months or even years of playing with some people before we started to really become friends and started to try and organize meetups.

I was in middle school and there was this Pokémon chat room I used to go to. One time I A/S/L’d with someone who (supposedly) was my age, female, and was an Aussie. We chatted a bit and at the time Harry Potter books were on shelves everywhere, I think just the first book or two was released at that point. Anyways, this Aussie had no clue what Harry Potter was and it was the first time in my life I had this greater awareness that entertainment was different across the world. Lame, but hearing asl always reminds me of that.

I, for one, did NOT know and my day is immeasurably improved with this newfound information.

Even more impressive is how competely opposite she is in real life to her character. Camina on the show is always pissed-off, angry and mostly resentful (perhaps justifiably so) but irl CG is so wholesome, bubbly, and always laughing. The first time I saw an interview of her I was like wow she must be really good to make her role so convincing in the show.

Makes sense. Wes Chatham is canonically That Guy.

I've interacted with countless redditors, and have yet to make a single friend from here. How? Haha

I met a weed dealer on reddit, that was about the extent of my victories, though.

I met my best friend on Reddit, and he died this year. I was the mysterious “Reddit girl” at the funeral. I met his family before I actually met him as they took me in during a natural disaster, as they lived five hours north of me. Love Reddit, and miss you man

I don’t see how people become friends through Reddit. We all say some of the most insane shit to each other lol

29

u/Cuntdracula19 6d ago

No shit, I would be mortified if someone I knew in real life knew the things I said on Reddit and I don’t think I would want to meet anyone in person for the same reasons lol

He does look like he takes care of his hygeine pretty well though. Clean clothes, no excessive blemishes, and his hair looks nice and well-tended to, confident smile.

As far as "typical redditor" look, I'd say he's best-case scenario.

This was his fit to come meet the girl he’s been talking to online for 7 years I’m sure he’s dressed his Sunday best

Yeah I always assume everyone on here is a tall hot chick, but I'm sure there's other less-tall hot chicks on here too.

You guys are mean. It’s a cool story. Leave it to Reddit douche bags to ruin a Reddit story.

This thread is really bringing out the best part of redditors.
