Better Call Saul is my favorite show, but it isn't Netflix original. It's from AMC

2.7k

u/Ireeb Sep 28 '22

And to my understanding Arcane is a production by Riot Games and Fortiche. Don't think Netflix had influence on the production.

What not doing their homework does to an OP

546

u/Zenfudo Sep 29 '22

I just think that OP meant any good show that’s advertised as a « Netflix original »

218

u/No_Interaction_4925 Sep 29 '22

So like everything on their platform now it seems like

92

u/Kind_Demand_6672 Sep 29 '22

It is original

and now its on Netflix

A primary and exclusive distributor can hold as many as zero to all of the cards though. Netflix funds and swings their dick on a lot of the shows they "only" distribute.

Better Call Saul is not one of them, but Arcane is. Riot probably didn't lock their IP to Netflix, but I'm pretty sure Netflix threw money at production too and probably have a nice deal for it all.

Check the big Netflix originals, few are actually listed as "produced" by Netflix. They really messed up perceptions by not separating distribution pickups and where they did have a hand in production, in my opinion. Their pickups diluted their brand in my eyes.

38

u/AlbertaTheBeautiful Sep 29 '22 edited Sep 29 '22

In an interview, the developers of League of Legends confirmed that Arcane is completely independent from Netflix - Riot "produces the series entirely" in collaboration with French studio Fortiche. The streaming platform is only in charge of the distribution of the series – the production of season 2 will therefore not be impacted in any way, good news for fans who are eagerly awaiting the continuation of the adventures of Jinx, Vi, Jayce and company. Source

Here's a qoute if you want to see that Arcane is also completely independent.

Edit: Also, here's a tweet from Riot Games' CEO that backs this up:

It is very important for us to keep both creative and financial control as we enter the world of TV. We are committed to Arcane for multiple seasons. Creative will have the space to craft amazing stories and deep characters.

I hope netflix does make another BB movie like El Camino but for BCS

Honestly both shows + El Camino wraps the universe up perfectly, I think another movie would be unnecessary.

28

maybe unnecessary but I still want it. I hear that Giancaro wants to do a Gus Frint prequel which would be interesting.

388

u/turgid_wang Sep 28 '22 edited Sep 29 '22

Unfortunate Events isn't either. Edit: not a Netflix Original as the meme says. We know it's on Netflix. But I confess I'm not 100% sure on the criteria for original here's a list and it isn't on it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Netflix_original_programming

As for Saul: OP is probably European and just assumed they made it

74

u/LKN-115 Sep 29 '22

Tbf, I don't think OP assumed anything, there are a good few shows that do say Netflix Original here, that aren't. It's not really OP's fault for believing it, they've no reason to question where the shows came from. Blame Netflix I guess

Is there spoilers for the game on it? I want to play the game before watching the show.

6

u/Fred_Foreskin Sep 29 '22

It doesn't spoil anything for the game. It all actually takes place right before the game, if I remember correctly.

4

u/Wayyd Sep 29 '22

The anime has its own story that doesn't relate to the main story of cyberpunk 2077 at all. So you won't be spoiled on the game if you watch the anime. In a way, though, the game does spoil the anime since it is set after the ending of the show and the new patch has some callbacks to events from the show, including the fate of several main characters.

4

u/TheBacklogGamer Sep 29 '22

Technically the game spoiled the show awhile ago.

A certain names drink has been in the Afterlife for awhile now. Can't remember if since release, but definitely before patch 1.6. People are only just now noticing it.

BOJACK HORSEMAN is enough to outweigh the rest of the 99% gabbagool on Netflix

45

u/SEND_ME_REAL_PICS Sep 29 '22

The only thing I don't like about Bojack is how hard it is to get other people to watch it due to its first season starting out as a silly sitcom. It even hits all the classic tropes with the alcoholic main character and all.

Even on a rewatch, some of the jokes in the first season (like the cotton candy puking in the first episode) made me think "What is this shit?".

But, after Downer Ending, the show turns into the best thing Netflix has ever had.
