I just picture it as a Nurburgring-scale track and not a Silverstone-scale track so that back section of chicanes isn’t as brutal.
2
u/GuiltyEidolon Valtteri Bottas Nov 27 '22
Agreed. Gets even better if you imagine the horn/hairpin is a switchback and you're gaining and losing a fair amount of altitude with it. Could actually be a pretty fun rally or endurance race.

u/PotterOneHalf Jordan Nov 27 '22
I was half a martini deep when I was looking at it and in my head going “I know she (my niece) doesn’t watch f1 and neither does her dad. I wonder where they got this anyway. Oh wait. I think that’s a hor, no a unicorn.”
152
u/dirtyhappythoughts Max Verstappen Nov 27 '22
Oh shit it's not actually a track.
It should be tho.
61
u/tedioussugar Niki Lauda Nov 27 '22
It wouldn’t be a great one if it was, look at the first sector. It’s all slow corners and Mickey-mouse sections with no racing potential that spits out into a tight hairpin, no car could follow or pass for a third of the lap.
26
u/dirtyhappythoughts Max Verstappen Nov 27 '22
Sure, not verbatim. But the general shape can be preserved. Make the corner after the horn flat-out, remove the multiple chicanes on the mane and there's a lot more potential.
3
u/Brno_Mrmi Jenson Button Nov 27 '22 edited Nov 27 '22
Take out the two chicanes after the S in the top part and make it a curved straight. Then you have a 4th gear corner and the hairpin, it's amazing. The jaw corners could be challenging, after the fast 5th gear nose curve.
EDIT: I've made a map for it, I call it the Unicornhead Autodrome lmao
2
u/Fappity_Fappity_Fap Michael Schumacher Nov 27 '22
Uh, then it pretty much becomes a little more than half of Abu Dhabi with a longer back straight, a smaller feeder series pit straight and a different, better, yet somehow similar other half after the horn hairpin.
7
u/Kronzor_ Max Verstappen Nov 27 '22
We going CW or CCW?
CCW you would absolutely be flat out of the horn until you got to like the neck. That next little hairpin would be a good passing spot because you could absolutely send it into there. If you don’t make thr overtake there you’d at least be close enough to pick DRS for that straight at the bottom. The “S’s” section is way to long that, that would be murder on the drivers, but otherwise I think there’s some good elements there.

u/AggrOHMYGOD Nov 27 '22

The thing that gave it away for me was the horn.
“Why kinda hellish hairpin gives you like a 1 mile straight before stopping you dead and then giving you another 1 mile straight?”
2
u/xNickel Oscar Piastri Nov 27 '22
Are there any tracks which have straights into a hairpin? I wonder how it would be for overtaking, straights into hard braking zones are always good, and a hairpin could really test skill?

Looking at it again, if you smoothed out the top 2 chicanes on the mane and ran counter-clockwise, you'd have a nice long straight followed by a sweeping corner that would be ideal

Sector 3 (the mane) looks a bit stressful…so many turns you wouldn’t find out who was ahead until they made it to the start of Sector 2 (AKA the neck where someone decapitated the Unicorn).

2
u/Knowledge_Admirable Nov 27 '22
I'm looking at this "track" and reading comments saying it would be bad for racing but I'm not sure... If this was the length of Spa, clockwise, and if corners and chicanes in upper right section were all downhill until bottom straight and then uphill from that tight right leading into short straight that ends with left... Add some solid amounts of camber to those uphill corners and this could be a monster for qually and racing... Teams and drivers would have big problems choosing right amount of downforce for their cars... Tire choice and pit entrance and exit set in the way that does not cost too much time could make it even bigger event... With all that this could really be the most popular event on the calendar... But then again I could just be suffering from post season depression and this is just me coping lol....
2
u/Kronzor_ Max Verstappen Nov 27 '22
They’d all be cracking max df for sure. It’s almost all corners and only 2 small straights.
2
u/Doom_SlayerWP Nov 27 '22
If this was an actual track, it would probably be a good track, tons of decent cornering sections, good long straights and 'straights' with a nice overall layout

Here's what I see: Start on The Neck Straight up to turn one (left) opening up to turn two (really messing with who gets inside/outside advantage at the start). The Muzzle (turns 3-5) has vibes of Turn 8 in Turkey, just in the opposite direction. The Horn (turn 7?) reminds me of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve hairpin, and will be exit into the first DRS á la Hungaroring's final turn. The three Mane Chicanes give off a nod to Hockenheimring, and will certainly throw off the timing of any driver that didn't get the previous exit just right. Lap ends with highly technical bits pushing breaking limits to the max until the base of the neck, the second of three DRS zones. The last DRS zone would occur when turning right onto the final straight. Overall: highly technical, with left side tires more likely to blister, hard braking zones galore. Total circuit length maybe 4 miles?
