Haha look at that hairpin!

265

u/activelypooping Nov 26 '22

DRS on both sides!

88

u/Scuttersalesman101 Jordan Nov 26 '22

Sepang style.

44

u/HeronAccording6789 McLaren Nov 27 '22

If you want pure chaos, make one end the starting line. Either turn one going down the face or down the mane would be great, and a finish line after a hairpin is always fun.

11

u/LickingSmegma Nov 27 '22

a finish line after a hairpin

Flashbacks to trying to get going out of the hairpin on a rolling start in Indycar at Long Beach, in the last position. (In a sim, obviously.)

1

u/Brno_Mrmi Jenson Button Nov 27 '22

Make it like Nürburgring or Spa, straight before the slow hairpin.

68

u/Snoo_23776 Nov 27 '22

Hornpin

-6

u/mj7766 Nov 27 '22

This comment needs more recognition

6

u/TheGreatCherryPopper Nov 27 '22

The hairpin ? Look at that double EAU ROUGE...

331

u/Eferver Max Verstappen Nov 26 '22

This would be hell on tires

159

u/Few-Judgment3122 Charles Leclerc Nov 26 '22

4 stop strategy

84

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '22

Sounds amazing TBH

13

u/m_ttl_ng Formula 1 Nov 27 '22

I just picture it as a Nurburgring-scale track and not a Silverstone-scale track so that back section of chicanes isn’t as brutal.

2

u/GuiltyEidolon Valtteri Bottas Nov 27 '22

Agreed. Gets even better if you imagine the horn/hairpin is a switchback and you're gaining and losing a fair amount of altitude with it. Could actually be a pretty fun rally or endurance race.

1.3k

u/Cormetz Niki Lauda Nov 26 '22

Who else spent a solid 30 seconds trying to figure out the track?

233

u/OforFsSake Nov 26 '22

Guilty.

336

u/PotterOneHalf Jordan Nov 27 '22

I was half a martini deep when I was looking at it and in my head going “I know she (my niece) doesn’t watch f1 and neither does her dad. I wonder where they got this anyway. Oh wait. I think that’s a hor, no a unicorn.”

152

u/dirtyhappythoughts Max Verstappen Nov 27 '22

Oh shit it's not actually a track.

It should be tho.

61

u/tedioussugar Niki Lauda Nov 27 '22

It wouldn’t be a great one if it was, look at the first sector. It’s all slow corners and Mickey-mouse sections with no racing potential that spits out into a tight hairpin, no car could follow or pass for a third of the lap.

26

u/dirtyhappythoughts Max Verstappen Nov 27 '22

Sure, not verbatim. But the general shape can be preserved. Make the corner after the horn flat-out, remove the multiple chicanes on the mane and there's a lot more potential.

3

u/Brno_Mrmi Jenson Button Nov 27 '22 edited Nov 27 '22

Take out the two chicanes after the S in the top part and make it a curved straight. Then you have a 4th gear corner and the hairpin, it's amazing. The jaw corners could be challenging, after the fast 5th gear nose curve.

EDIT: I've made a map for it, I call it the Unicornhead Autodrome lmao

2

u/Fappity_Fappity_Fap Michael Schumacher Nov 27 '22

Uh, then it pretty much becomes a little more than half of Abu Dhabi with a longer back straight, a smaller feeder series pit straight and a different, better, yet somehow similar other half after the horn hairpin.

7

u/Kronzor_ Max Verstappen Nov 27 '22

We going CW or CCW?

CCW you would absolutely be flat out of the horn until you got to like the neck. That next little hairpin would be a good passing spot because you could absolutely send it into there. If you don’t make thr overtake there you’d at least be close enough to pick DRS for that straight at the bottom. The “S’s” section is way to long that, that would be murder on the drivers, but otherwise I think there’s some good elements there.

7

u/AggrOHMYGOD Nov 27 '22

All future tracks are just going to be drawings from someone’s 6 year old niece from here on out

24

u/janxus McLaren Nov 27 '22

Wait. It’s a fucking unicorn? God damn the winter break. None of us are in our right minds.

17

u/TricolorCat Jordan Nov 27 '22

I haven’t seen the Unicorn without your comment.

8

u/zulamun Honda Nov 27 '22

I thought it was a track, then I thought it was an organ like intestines or a liver and your friend was a Doctor to be honest. Didn't see unicorn until I read your comment.

9

u/MoldyTexas Nov 27 '22

Oh my fucking god that's a Unicorn head. Trust me, before this comment of yours I had already scrolled away thinking of this as another Nordschleife recreation.

3

u/canibanoglu Niki Lauda Nov 27 '22

I did not see the unicorn until I read this

43

u/Tonoigtonbawtumgaer Formula 1 Nov 26 '22

10

The mane looks like Le Mans

17

u/PurpEL Nov 27 '22

Le manes

24

u/flowersweep Nov 26 '22

I kept wondering what I was supposed to be seeing if not a racetrack lol

13

u/Teknoeh Ferrari Nov 27 '22

The thing that gave it away for me was the horn.

“Why kinda hellish hairpin gives you like a 1 mile straight before stopping you dead and then giving you another 1 mile straight?”

2

u/xNickel Oscar Piastri Nov 27 '22

Are there any tracks which have straights into a hairpin? I wonder how it would be for overtaking, straights into hard braking zones are always good, and a hairpin could really test skill?

2

u/Leone_0 Jules Bianchi Nov 27 '22

Sepang, Knockhill, Hockenheim...

1

u/JJROKCZ McLaren Nov 27 '22

Vietnam?

1

u/MyNameIsSushi Sebastian Vettel Nov 27 '22

China

1

u/Antidote-Killer Lance Stroll Nov 27 '22

AVUS, lmao

11

u/ark_keeper McLaren Nov 27 '22

I was like “oh cool he won one of the fluorescent track layout giveaways” then I realized

8

u/LordTonka Sergio Pérez Nov 26 '22

Not much room for DRS.

3

u/Embarrassed_Diet_386 Nov 27 '22

Didn’t see which sub this was as I was scrolling, and immediately started to try and figure out which track trophy that was. That would be a great one for Vegas! Gotta have the neon though

4

u/shewy92 Haas Nov 27 '22

Me. It took me a while to see the unicorn

1

u/MadeOfRocky Mick Schumacher Nov 27 '22

2

124

Holy shit that would be a nightmare. I believe not even current cars would be able to follow through that upper section :D Imagine 2010 cars there… oof

60

u/ShortysTRM Jean Girard Nov 26 '22

Hairpin! Chicane! Chicane! Chicane! Big chicane! Tiny curves! Esses!

4

u/BaylorClub Lando Norris Nov 27 '22

Technically, it did.

77

u/siberianhemispheres Nov 26 '22

Kinda looks like the Nordschleife

40

u/panopticon31 Aston Martin Nov 27 '22

The Pink Hell

21

u/wivo1 Nov 27 '22

Wait until February, 3 months into no racing. I see race tracks on my plate, cut race lines into my lawn, mentally downshift at the end of aisles in supermarkets and stores.

19

u/tpowell345 Nov 26 '22

That back section looks gnarly!

50

u/realK58 Nov 26 '22

I was like “what version of the nordschleife is this” but then realised

16

u/sadv35sedan Nov 27 '22

this track looks terrible. add it to the 2024 season please

6

u/Alvaro_Rey_MN Fernando Alonso Nov 27 '22

Who should host it though? I vote for Best Korea.

3

u/sadv35sedan Nov 27 '22

sector 1 in North Korea, sector 2 Russia, sector 3 Epstein Island

31

u/KringeliKroka Max Verstappen Nov 26 '22

Showed this to my half-asleep boyfriend and asked what track it was and he answered so confidently "Spa" and now he's embarrassed hahahah

30

u/buck_blue Safety Car Nov 26 '22

Fucking hell, it took me a second to realize I wasn’t looking at a track. I was trying to figure out which one it was, like a dipshit. I guess I’m really going through it

9

u/WhatItIsToBurn McLaren Nov 27 '22

Terrible mane straight.

8

u/A_Random_Username_0 Nov 27 '22

It’s only been a week and people are clearly horny for racing again.

7

u/johnnyg243 Nov 26 '22 edited Nov 27 '22

Coming out of the snout and into the horn it’s Verstappen followed by LeClerc moving quickly into the silky main it’s Carlos Sainz leading the way.

8

u/TheMissingThink Nov 27 '22

Where are the DRS zones?

7

u/PotterOneHalf Jordan Nov 27 '22

Wherever you’d like. Drs through the turns. Embrace chaos.

2

u/TheMissingThink Nov 27 '22

Looking at it again, if you smoothed out the top 2 chicanes on the mane and ran counter-clockwise, you'd have a nice long straight followed by a sweeping corner that would be ideal

37

u/onethousandtoms Nov 26 '22

What is this even supposed to be? 😂😂😂

79

u/PotterOneHalf Jordan Nov 26 '22

A unicorn, I believe.

14

u/-LNAM- Formula 1 Nov 26 '22

Classic Unicorn hairpin.

36

The off-season.

3

Corsica i believe 🤔

6

u/TexasTheWalkerRanger Nov 27 '22

Oh my fucking god me and my dad were in Austin for the race this year walking around walmart and saw this on the shelf. Neither of us could figure out what circuit it was because it definitely wasn't COTA until I realized it was a fucking UNICORN. Neither of us have let each other live that one down yet LMAO

5

u/afkPacket Ferrari Nov 26 '22

This is so going to be some shitty street track in a Gulf country some day

5

u/Dodomando Niki Lauda Nov 26 '22

These Tilke tracks are getting more and more insane

5

u/Sparklysherbet151 Nov 27 '22

Sector 3 (the mane) looks a bit stressful…so many turns you wouldn’t find out who was ahead until they made it to the start of Sector 2 (AKA the neck where someone decapitated the Unicorn).

4

u/PotterOneHalf Jordan Nov 27 '22

I feel like the drivers brains would liquify from the back and forth.

3

u/Sparklysherbet151 Nov 27 '22

So true, especially if porpoising is involved too 😂

5

u/beatupcar Fernando Alonso Nov 27 '22

Nah, I didn’t even see the unicorn initially, I tried to figure out the track and then yeah, I saw it and the post season depression continued.

5

u/TurboDurbo1 Formula 1 Nov 27 '22

Saw this and thought "well yeah no shit it's a cutout of a track."

Guess I see it everywhere too.

5

u/Conscious_Inside6021 Nov 27 '22

Welcome to the first Heineken Unicorn GP held at the La La Land circuit here in Dreamland.

3

u/RS724 Nov 27 '22

In my head, I’m racing this track counterclockwise. I don’t know why.

3

u/yungnfeenin Nov 27 '22

A unicorn?

4

u/Alvaro_Rey_MN Fernando Alonso Nov 27 '22

Looks like a combination Senpang, Silverstone, Suzuka, and Singapore.

9

u/LilONotation Kevin Magnussen Nov 26 '22

I mean, half of it could be a descent track.. or at least better than sochi

3

u/Ordinary_Farmer58 Nov 26 '22

Looks like a good rally stage

3

u/Suikerspin_Ei Honda Nov 26 '22

Lots of chicanes lol.

3

u/Berger_UK Nov 27 '22

Gonna struggle to fit in a DRS zone on that!

3

u/PotterOneHalf Jordan Nov 27 '22

All depends on the scale. It could be a decent one on the left, if it was MASSIVE

3

u/Impossible-Exit-4474 Nov 27 '22

If I had to draw silver stone from memory it’d look like this

3

u/zerosigma_ Nov 27 '22

I conclude that this track only has ONE DRS ZONE.

3

u/jeanolt Max Verstappen Nov 27 '22
  • Hey do you have a Monster?

2

The neck could be pit straight. Anti clockwise i guess. Insane second sector. Sector 1 and 3 drs zones. Depends on how many laps this could be a true 4 stopper

Wait....it's not a track then?

5

u/PotterOneHalf Jordan Nov 27 '22

Nope, it’s a lamp.

Kidding, it’s supposed to be a unicorn.

1

u/Soggy_Repair_5227 Nov 27 '22

Hahaha!!! Are you sure it's not and F1 track? 🤣, we're missing F1 together 🤘

3

u/PotterOneHalf Jordan Nov 27 '22

I wish, my niece would’ve been even cooler if she was a fan.

3

u/Soggy_Repair_5227 Nov 27 '22

You can always make her...i watch races with my 4 or 5 yo niece when I was at home, and she's now 6 and she still remembers. Gift her f1 staff....maybe she finds a lamp of Interlagos more interesting than the unicorn hahaha

2

u/Knowledge_Admirable Nov 27 '22

I'm looking at this "track" and reading comments saying it would be bad for racing but I'm not sure... If this was the length of Spa, clockwise, and if corners and chicanes in upper right section were all downhill until bottom straight and then uphill from that tight right leading into short straight that ends with left... Add some solid amounts of camber to those uphill corners and this could be a monster for qually and racing... Teams and drivers would have big problems choosing right amount of downforce for their cars... Tire choice and pit entrance and exit set in the way that does not cost too much time could make it even bigger event... With all that this could really be the most popular event on the calendar... But then again I could just be suffering from post season depression and this is just me coping lol....

2

u/Kronzor_ Max Verstappen Nov 27 '22

They’d all be cracking max df for sure. It’s almost all corners and only 2 small straights.

2

u/Doom_SlayerWP Nov 27 '22

If this was an actual track, it would probably be a good track, tons of decent cornering sections, good long straights and 'straights' with a nice overall layout

2

u/Signs_and_Stuff Nov 27 '22

Omg, I thought it was a bodily organ outline until I got to the 2nd DRS detection point and saw the horn...

2

2

u/Jason8ourne Nov 27 '22

Took me a while to realise what that was

2

u/Kenneth_Angelus76 Mercedes Nov 27 '22

Yo is that the Circuit of Imagination?

2

u/shmajent Rubens Barrichello Nov 27 '22

Here's what I see: Start on The Neck Straight up to turn one (left) opening up to turn two (really messing with who gets inside/outside advantage at the start). The Muzzle (turns 3-5) has vibes of Turn 8 in Turkey, just in the opposite direction. The Horn (turn 7?) reminds me of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve hairpin, and will be exit into the first DRS á la Hungaroring's final turn. The three Mane Chicanes give off a nod to Hockenheimring, and will certainly throw off the timing of any driver that didn't get the previous exit just right. Lap ends with highly technical bits pushing breaking limits to the max until the base of the neck, the second of three DRS zones. The last DRS zone would occur when turning right onto the final straight. Overall: highly technical, with left side tires more likely to blister, hard braking zones galore. Total circuit length maybe 4 miles?

2

u/jeroentoonk Nov 27 '22

It's just the angle..

2

u/Beginning-Animator76 Ferrari Nov 28 '22

Oh wow I was actually wondering what track that was for a sec lol

2

u/tkcom Kamui Kobayashi Nov 28 '22

If it’s clockwise, that lead up to the hairpin is just like Hockenheim.

2

u/Sam_GT3 George Russell Nov 27 '22

That’d be a pretty shit track
