I’d watch a Formula 1 anime in a heartbeat.

Is Initial D currently the closest we have?
41
u/D-Rez23 Sir Lewis Hamilton Nov 25 '22
Capeta is a go kart/Formula 1 anime and manga. Look it up. It’s really good.
6
u/Chiaki_Ronpa Claire Williams Nov 26 '22
Just looked it up, it looks awesome! Also, it is so nice to see so many Formula 1 fans that enjoy anime.
6
u/Cord87 Nov 26 '22
I think anime gets slept on these days. Almost all of us grew up on Pokemon and Dragon Ball. Apparently most NBA players love anime according to Zion Williamson
10
u/Genocode Pirelli Wet Nov 26 '22
Actually I think these days its getting slept on less and less, and some animes become legitimately mainstream, like Attack on Titan and One Punch Man for example.
2
u/Chiaki_Ronpa Claire Williams Nov 26 '22
I agree. I’m still just used to the stigma associated with watching anime, so it is very nice to meet people that can enjoy and blend F1 and anime. We live in an awesome world.
6
u/Chiaki_Ronpa Claire Williams Nov 26 '22
I’ve blown some of my friends minds reminding them that Pokémon is anime. It was such a normal part of our childhoods and played on everyday TV so didn’t really feel “Anime”.
10
u/Thestig37 Nov 26 '22
There also redline which is a movie but super good
4
u/Chiaki_Ronpa Claire Williams Nov 26 '22
Can absolutely vouch for Redline. The animation is very good.

Best we currently have might be Future GPX Cyber Formula.
Decent amount of episodes and some great racing. They ham fisted in a little too much interpersonal drama during the race drama most times, but there are some excellent sequences. Plus, this anime talked about variable suspension and active wing stuff way back. The animation style holds up still imo
Initial D is by far the better anime, but this one is more formula style. Circuits, pit stops, insane speeds, huge crashes, etc
Edit: Another commenter mentioned Capeta, which is fantastic too!

u/Genocode Pirelli Wet Nov 26 '22
There are three racing (chinese) animes in the pipeline but none of them are really F1, they are:
Sci-Fi racing anime called HIGHSPEED Etoile
MF Ghost which seems Initial D-esque
A Chinese ONA called Jifeng Jingsu which seems a lot closer to F1That said, none of these had their release dates confirmed yet.

Look up Capeta. It’s a formula 1 anime

As a Brazilian I'll admit it took a while for me to get past the name (an anime about F1 that is literally named "Devil", I wonder how popular it was lmao), but still, it seems like an amazing F1 anime and ty for this 🏎️
5
u/RhubarbNo4574 Nov 25 '22
Damn! Could you imagine? I'd love to watch something like that, Initial D is superb, but it'd be awesome to get a Japanese studio to make a F1 anime 🏎️
5
u/Chiaki_Ronpa Claire Williams Nov 26 '22
For real though. I’d personally love to see the current/recent grid in a full (24 episode) season, maybe based off the 2021 season. That would be outstanding from a anime drama perspective.
2
u/Skylair13 Kimi Räikkönen Nov 26 '22
High Speed Etoile is an upcoming project. They're working together with Super Formula for it.

Seb gives more of a Kakashi vibe to be frankly.
But Charles would definitely be Naruto in this scenario.

Okay now I gotta ask... who are Hamilton and Russell?
2
u/Tony_Lacorona McLaren Nov 26 '22
Hamilton = Gaara and Russell = rock lee
2
u/ScrubKaiser Charles Leclerc Nov 26 '22
Feel like if Seb is going to be Kakashi or Minato then Hamilton would probably be one of the previous Kage or his class mates.
So you could do Asuma/Shikamaru or Might Guy/Rock Lee.

The technically correct answer is that it is on the car because lots of money changed hands between BYBIT and Red Bull.

It's apart from the NFT series since it is obviously not an NFT, but rather a sticker applied to car - making it separate from the NFT collection.
2
u/Neither_Amount3911 Yuki Tsunoda Nov 26 '22
But it IS an NFT… the whole point of them and the reason they’re so dumb is because they’re an “idea” more or less, so even if this isn’t literally the image on the opensea website it’s still the same NFT
-2
u/fmfbrestel Nov 26 '22
An NFT lives on the Blockchain. That circled character is a physical sticker applied to a car. It is definitely fungible, since identical copies were on both sides of both cars.
It is NOT an NFT.
It IS an advertisement for NFTs, using the likeness of an NFT.
Further, let's discuss what my comment was and wasn't. It was not an attempt to inform people which images were and were not part of an nft collection.
It was an attempt to humorously defend a comment that mistakenly used the word "apart" instead of "a part".
A) Wrong
B) Woosh

On another note, what's the story behind driver number 36?
Edit: Thanks for people pointing out it's Lawson. For some reason my brain interpreted Abu Dhabi GP as Saudi GP, and I was sure there were no rookie F1 practices in a RB that weekend

Their crypto sponsor was doing a little NFT scam.
19
u/CharlieTeller Sebastian Vettel Nov 25 '22
Nfts aren't really a scam. Just stupid. You know exactly what you're getting and willingly pay off it.
66
u/TimedogGAF Yuki Tsunoda Nov 25 '22
Lots of scams people know exactly what they're getting. It's predatory and gross.
17
u/CharlieTeller Sebastian Vettel Nov 25 '22
If you see someone selling something on the internet and you Choose to buy it and you get exactly what you pay for, it's not really a scam. You just bought a stupid product.
20
u/TimedogGAF Yuki Tsunoda Nov 25 '22
People aren't buying an NFT because it's a jpeg they want. Just like people aren't paying a bunch of money for "holy water" vials because they need a vial of water. Both are scams that rely on the ideas surrounding the actual products. If you look at the ideas surrounding the product it's plain to see where the scam is.
If you want to be hyper-literalist and willfully obtuse then yeah, the customer will literally receive a jpeg or a vial of water or whatever.
47
u/lasagnaguard Nov 25 '22
Propping it up with big celebrity endorsements and portraying it as a good investment is pretty scammy
8
u/CharlieTeller Sebastian Vettel Nov 25 '22
I mean they do the same with red bull. Market it down your throat with celebrities on an objectively unhealthy product. Is that a scam as well?
14
u/Ethical_Koala Nov 25 '22
You can drink a Red Bull and get some caffeine, can't do shit with an NFT.
8
u/CharlieTeller Sebastian Vettel Nov 25 '22
I mean technically you can sell it. No one wants it really but it's the same as your money in the bank. Non existent. Just numbers in a program.
I'm not shilling Nfts and anyone who buys them is a dunce but I can't call it a scam.
1
u/Ethical_Koala Nov 25 '22
The FDIC and other agencies ensure that the numbers representing my deposits are meaningful. Not so with crypto.
The scam is telling people that it has some sort of intrinsic value when it is all speculation.
6
u/ZeroSorry Esteban Ocon Nov 25 '22
Who's saying NFTs have intrinsic value? I think no one. Marketing it with a whole bunch of nonsense is not claiming it has intrinsic value.
0
u/SaucyBoyThe2nd Formula 1 Nov 25 '22
At least money in the bank is stable. NFT's aren't. These NFT pushers are trying to make people think it is the same as gold and will hold or increase it's value, while the moment people forget them you lose thousands of dollars. And the creators know this, but continue anyway. So yeah, it's a scam. Then there are people using it to launder money. Also not that great... the whole market is based on people posting a price tag and others buying it because they think it will be worth more. I am not putting my money in the bank expecting it will be worth more, i expect it to be the same.
3
u/CharlieTeller Sebastian Vettel Nov 26 '22
People who fall for that deserve what they get. It's no different than people who spend their money on in game cosmetics. If it makes you happy go for it but it's not real.

7
u/lasagnaguard Nov 25 '22
No one is marketing redbull as an asset. If you can't tell the difference IDK what to tell you.
-2
u/Blapii Formula 1 Nov 26 '22
The equivalent is far closer to Red Bull selling empty cans and telling people there's a drink in there. NFTs are sold to people as an investment that have a reasonable chance to appreciate, all the while they provide virtually nothing and have little to no chance of doing so
1
u/dsontag Nov 26 '22
FTX and others inflated value x1000, people fell for a lot of shit it was most definitely a scam
16
u/Webbaard Formula 1 Nov 25 '22
I will give you that NFT are technically NOT a scam. Practically however...............
10
u/AlexUnlocked Nov 25 '22
It's a pyramid scheme without a physical product. Why do you think crypto bros are such rabid evangelists for anything blockchain? They are falsifying scarcity and value so their own digital bullshit is worth more, so they can profit off of people coming into the crypto sphere.
29
u/Carmillawoo Andretti Global Nov 25 '22
It's an NFT, I still dont see how anyone can think these things have actual value when they are, in fact, VERY fungible.
1
u/C_RONALDO7 McLaren Nov 26 '22
You have an NFT though
2
u/Carmillawoo Andretti Global Nov 26 '22

Thats an AZUKI.
Azuki is an NFT Anime Project. Its a top one.
Bybit is a Crypto Exchange sponsor of RedBull.
It was a Collab with Bybit X Azuki.
Azuki bought that Lightning Li (I Think thats how they calling him) and keeping it as a RedBull Representation. Maybe gifting it to max for winning ? Idk. All I know its an Azuki x Bybit Collab.

u/ShrimpZA Honda Nov 26 '22
I don't know why anyone would pay millions to put this kind of thing on the side of a car, and 90% of people are just like "wat" (including me).
Seems like kind of pointless in terms of the intent of advertising and sponsorships.

As someone who dabbles with NFTs (collected some NBA TopShot moments near the end of 2021), RB had a collaboration with an NFT project called Azuki, an anime-focused digital art collection.
Azuki is one of the more "successful" (depends on how you define success in this market) NFT projects/communities out there as the entry cost to purchase one on the secondary market is nearly $12k USD.
Here is a post from their twitter to promote the collaboration. https://twitter.com/AzukiOfficial/status/1593151612918575105
