Hi guys! I'm the photographer that took the picture of Max and his orange army last year. Here's the rest of that day in high-res and free to download. Misc
Hi all!
Last year I posted this picture here on Reddit, and the love it received was so mind-blowing that I was completely taken away by it. It was my first weekend at a race track with the intention of taking good photos. Your feedback encouraged me to push further, and I have visited other tracks since - something I would not have done without you.
As my way of thanking you all, I worked hard to process all the pictures I had taken that weekend, and compile a Flickr album of the best shots I have. There's a lot in there, from overview shots, to stills and pannings. They are all in high resolution, and you are more than free to download and use them however you want :). The link is here. You will find pictures of almost all the drivers, so I'm sure there is something you may want to have. Hope you enjoy!

I’d nominate that photo for sports photo of the year tbh. Great composition

Pretty inspiring to see the body being a D5300! I have a D5600 myself, reignites the fire to start shooting again!:)

Honestly, the biggest difference I noticed when you upgrade to better cameras are better ISO handling, faster burst Mode and the photos are just that more sharper. The edges are better refined in close up shots that a non full-frame cannot recreate. But for the average person that is not that much of a dealbreaker it seems.

If we ignore the fact that Leclerc actually won that race, this picture serves as such a great summary of the 2022 season: Verstappen, supported by his Orange Army of fans, on his own at the top, while the rest can be seen in the background down below fighting for scraps

I have good news for you, as I believe I took this picture during the sprint race (had no ticket for Sunday :( ). So technically, he won this race.

Can’t wait to look through your album when I get home. What lens did you shoot this with?

Mostly my 70-300mm F4.5/5.6 lens and my girlfriends 18-85mm. Both Nikon lenses on a D5300 body. I'm saving up for the almighty 70-200mm F2.8 but boy its expensive.

Photos look great mate! I was also there at turn 3 (it was my first GP) and seeing these just took me back. It was a great weekend! Thanks for sharing

It was awesome! Good weather, good vibes (except for some drunk Dutchies annoying my partner), but the organization in general was top notch. Loved it :).

Amazing!!! I used to do architectural and political photography, thought about trying some motorsport stuff for fun, but it’s definitely much harder to shoot a moving target so big respect!
What kinda camera do you use? You a Sony or Cannon guy? Favorite focal length?

Thank you! Yeah it's definitely much harder than shooting stills. When I'm not at the track I do a lot of alpine shots from skiing to vistas, as I live in Austria. I have a Nikon D5300 at home with which I do everything. When I started with race photography I thought I would love the closer the better, so 2-300mm+, but the more I take pictures the more I nudge towards a style that's further away from the subject, as it gives more of a story when you include the background.
Some of my favourite shots I took are around 30-80mm, like this, this or this.

Awesome pics, I'm definitely using the picture of Lando and the Mclaren army in the background for my wallpaper

Amazing pictures! Perfect example of how the photographer is much more important than the gear! (looking at the file data on the camera used which shows a Nikon D5300 which is a low end camera by professional photographer standards as I undrestand)

Thank you! :) Funny story about that. I was shooting at Nurburgring last year (OvD Oldtimer Historic with classic cars), and I met a man who told me he also shot at F1 weekends. He was walking around with a Canon 1100D with a standard kitlens. That is the most basic camera from Canon and was released somewhere in 2011.
I then looked up his pictures and was absolutely blown away about what he produces. What he told me was: "more expensive equipment gives you more options and shortcuts towards good pictures, but I like more of a challenge."
Sadly I cannot remember his name anymore :(. He had long grey hair and was wearing a light-brown cowboy-ish hat.

Indeed - it's the photographer not the kit. :)
I hope to be on your level some day!

I'm a sucker for tracks nearby vast green areas, so my favorites are the photos that also include the gorgeous landscape.
